What VIOLET Sees: The Behavioral Layer of Cancer Before Patients Reach a Clinic

By Jason Alan Snyder·February 28, 2024

Before a patient steps into a waiting room, they search. They search at 2am when the anxiety is highest. VIOLET maps that invisible layer — the behavioral signal layer of cancer that exists before clinical presentation.

Before a patient steps into a waiting room, before they make an appointment, before they even know what they are looking for — they search.

They search at 2am when the anxiety is highest. They search the name of the drug their oncologist mentioned. They search for stage 3 survival rates and clinical trials near them and symptoms they are afraid to say out loud.

VIOLET maps that invisible layer.

What VIOLET Is

VIOLET stands for Visual Intelligence Layer for Oncology Trends and Evidence Triangulation. It is a behavioral signal intelligence platform: a 3D semantic map of how patients, caregivers, and advocates move through the information landscape of cancer.

750 search terms. 20 semantic clusters. Five years of historical data. Six evidence sources: ClinicalTrials.gov, PubMed, FDA openFDA, Google Scholar, Google News, and patents.

The platform tracks what people search, when they search it, how the search behavior clusters across conditions, and how those clusters shift over time. It is not a social listening tool. It is not a keyword research tool. It is a behavioral intelligence layer built specifically for the oncology and rare disease context.

The 2am Window

The highest-intent signal in oncology is not a clinical encounter. It is a search query at 2am.

A patient searching for stage 4 pancreatic cancer trial eligibility at 2am is not browsing. They are deciding. They are trying to understand their options before they go back to sleep, or before they make a phone call in the morning.

VIOLET calls this the 2am vulnerability window. The behavioral signal that precedes clinical action by weeks or months. For pharma companies, this is the earliest detectable sign that a patient is actively engaged with their condition. For oncology centers, it is a signal that a patient is searching for alternatives. For clinical trial recruiters, it is the highest-conversion moment in the recruitment funnel.

Most institutions cannot see this signal at all. It does not show up in EHR data. It does not show up in claims. It does not appear until the patient walks through the door, if they walk through the door.

The Trust Layer Underneath

Behavioral data without a trust layer is noise.

Every signal that VIOLET surfaces is scored against the SuperTruth Data Trust Index: eight dimensions that determine whether a signal is reliable enough to act on. Provenance (where did this search pattern originate?), Recency (is this signal current or historical?), Concordance (does this pattern corroborate across multiple independent evidence sources?).

A cancer search term tracked across ClinicalTrials.gov, PubMed, and Google Scholar simultaneously produces a higher DTI score than one tracked in a single source. The score travels with the signal. It does not disappear when the data moves downstream.

This is what separates VIOLET from a search analytics dashboard. The analytics tell you what people searched. The trust layer tells you whether what you found is real.

Who Uses VIOLET

Pharma companies use VIOLET to understand where treatment awareness exists before campaigns launch, to identify the moment a drug name enters patient vocabulary organically, and to surface rare disease cohorts that are actively searching for clinical trial options 12 to 18 months before clinical presentation.

Oncology centers use VIOLET to understand what their patient populations are anxious about after hours, where health equity gaps concentrate geographically, and which behavioral signals predict which care pathways.

Clinical trial recruiters use VIOLET to find motivated cohorts before those patients are lost to competing trials, to despair, or to providers who found them first.

The imaware Connection

SuperTruth oncology work does not start with VIOLET. It starts with imaware.

When SuperTruth partnered with imaware, an at-home lab testing company with 105,000 diagnostic records, the core problem was the same: fragmented data without a trust layer, producing intelligence no one could rely on.

The results: 95 percent reduction in analysis time (from three weeks to two hours), 200 hours of manual work eliminated, and a customer segment identified as contributing 20 percent of total revenue that had been invisible in the fragmented data.

VIOLET applies the same infrastructure to the behavioral layer. The same trust scoring. The same provenance tracking. The same commitment to proving the data before anyone acts on it.

What Comes Next

The behavioral layer of cancer is not a separate problem from the data trust problem. They are the same problem. VIOLET is where those two problems converge.

VIOLET is live in production. The semantic maps update continuously. Evidence triangulation runs across all six sources on a defined cadence. DTI scoring is applied to every signal before it surfaces.
